Why Did Lestat Turn Nicki Into a Vampire?

This is the emotional heart of the episode. Lestat and Nicki were first loves — neighbours before Paris, inseparable once they arrived there. But after Magnus forcibly turned Lestat, everything unravelled. Lestat hid his vampiric nature from Nicki, lying and gaslighting him as their relationship deteriorated. Nicki, sensing something had changed, grew increasingly unstable — desperate to have whatever “witchery” had transformed Lestat.

Lestat ultimately gave Nicki the dark gift not out of desire but out of a twisted mercy — feeling it would be far more cruel to leave Nicki to wither away with a mind he had helped destroy. But vampirism doesn’t fix what is already broken within a mortal. Nicki’s descent into madness only accelerated after turning, becoming progressively deranged until there was no saving him.

The Most Devastating Scene — Nicki’s End

In a harrowing sequence, a fully deranged Nicki chops off his own hand — a devastating allegory for losing the violin playing that had drawn Lestat to him in the first place, and severing their love entirely. Armand then pushes Nicki into the fireplace to end his suffering — while Lestat stood there, complicit, unable to stop it but also unable to take responsibility himself.

When Lestat finally confesses to Daniel that he watched Armand kill Nicki, Sam Reid delivers the season’s most extraordinary performance — tearing off his microphone, hyperventilating, crying tears of blood. This is maker and destroyer — and as the episode makes clear, it is Lestat’s inescapable pattern with everyone he loves: first Nicki, then Louis, then Claudia.

The Magnus Music Video — Brilliant or Disturbing?

The episode depicts Magnus’ obsession with Lestat through a campy modern-day stalker music video for the song “Your Biggest Fan” — with the humour of the scene adding to its horror rather than diminishing it. When Daniel calls Magnus an abuser, Lestat insists on framing the relationship as liberation — a chilling form of denial that reveals just how deep his psychological wounds run.
