In an exclusive interview, Golden Globe-nominated actor Tom Cavanagh — best known as the fan-favourite villain Reverse-Flash on The Flash — opened up about why teaming up with Brooke Shields has been one of the most “dynamic and enjoyable” experiences of his career.

What Is You’re Killing Me About?

Set in the fictional New England town of Founders’ Cove, the six-episode Acorn TV series follows bestselling mystery novelist Allie (Brooke Shields), who joins forces with an ambitious true-crime podcaster Andi (Amalia Williamson) to investigate the murder of a close friend. Cavanagh plays Detective Jack Kerrigan — a big-city cop trying to survive the chaos these two amateur sleuths bring to his investigations.

Cavanagh has made no secret of his enthusiasm for the project. His character Jack is constantly “by the rule book” while Allie and Andi are always a few steps ahead — and a few steps off-limits.

“A murder mystery that also has a romantic storyline is catnip for me,” Cavanagh said.

Shields equally raved about Cavanagh, noting that he “grounds” them even as they perpetually derail his investigations. “We don’t ask for permission. We even barely ask for forgiveness,” Shields quipped — which pretty much sums up the irresistible tension between the trio.

Why This Show Works So Well?

The series is being compared to Murder, She Wrote meets Only Murders in the Building, with the generational gap between Allie and Andi providing much of its comedic fuel. Shields, who also serves as executive producer, even pushed for the show’s title — arguing it perfectly captured both the mystery and its cheeky humour.
