Barcelona Femeni have been crowned the champions of the Primera Iberdrola following Levante’s 1-1 draw with Espanyol. The Blaugrana women have had an unbelievable campaign this season, winning 26 games out of 26.

The 20/21 league title is the sixth in their history, and their second consecutive. Barcelona were handed the league title last season despite it being called off due to the pandemic. They were nine points clear at the top of the table, and were hence, declared the winners.

This season has been remarkable for the women, which sees them surpass Athletic Club Bilbao as the most successful women’s club in Spain. Bilbao had five league titles to their name, and Barcelona’s sixth means they now have the most number of league titles in the division.

Counting last season’s victories, Barcelona Femeni have won 30 games at a stretch, matching Levante’s record that was established between 00/01 and 01/02.

The season is not yet over, as Barcelona now have the task of potentially completing the double. They face Chelsea in the Women’s Champions League finals this Saturday, and will be hoping to set things right after crashing out last season against eventual winners, Lyon.

The women are currently out in Tenerife, having beat Granadilla. And it won’t be until May 19th, after the Champions League finals, that the team is able to celebrate the league title win with their supporters at the Estadi Johan Cruyff.
