Michael Biopic Crosses $800M Global Box Office Milestone

The Michael Jackson biopic titled Michael has officially crossed the $800 million mark at the global box office, marking a significant commercial triumph in 2026. This achievement places the film ahead of the highly anticipated Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, which has found it challenging to match the biographical drama’s wide international appeal.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua and produced by Graham King’s GK Films in collaboration with the Michael Jackson Estate, the film has struck a chord with audiences worldwide. As it continues to captivate viewers in theaters, industry analysts are keeping a close eye on its performance compared to other major releases. The success of the Michael biopic plays a crucial role in how this narrative evolves.

The production’s journey from development to its eagerly awaited release clearly aimed for widespread appeal. However, the film’s connection to the Michael Jackson Estate has sparked heated discussions about how the star’s life is portrayed. Future Streaming Prospects and Industry Impact

Even with the tremendous success at the box office, the future of Michael on streaming platforms remains a hot topic of conversation. As of May 24, 2026, there hasn’t been any official news about which OTT service will carry the film, leading major streamers to vie for what could be a lucrative acquisition.

The absence of a confirmed streaming deal indicates that the Michael Jackson Estate and the production team are focused on maximizing the film’s theatrical run. If this trend continues, it might challenge the highest-grossing musical biopics in cinematic history.

So, what’s next for the film? With the Cannes Film Festival recently wrapping up its latest edition, industry insiders are already speculating about award season opportunities for Jaafar Jackson.

While the film hasn’t secured specific awards just yet, its box office success lays a solid groundwork for future recognition. The attention will likely shift to how the film navigates its post-theatrical phase and whether it influences future biographical dramas.
