Mating Season Voice Cast Guide: Every Actor Behind Netflix’s Wildest Animated Comedy of 2026

Netflix’s Mating Season didn’t just arrive with a wild premise — it arrived with one of the most stacked voice casts in recent adult animation history. From the four series regulars to a sprawling guest list of comedy heavyweights, the show is essentially a forest-set reunion of some of the funniest people working in Hollywood right now.

Here’s your complete guide to who plays who in the Big Mouth team’s bold new series.

Mating Main Cast: Four Animals, Four Messes

These four voices carry every episode and anchor the entire show’s emotional core.

Nick Kroll as Ray — Co-creator Kroll voices the raccoon at the chaotic centre of the show. Ray’s appetite for companionship knows no species boundary, his hedonism partly explained by a traumatic backstory involving a mother who once tried to eat him. Kroll’s fast-talking, slightly unhinged energy is perfectly matched to the character.

Zach Woods as Josh — The bear who oversleeps hibernation and wakes up single. Woods brings his signature anxious-intellectual energy to Josh — insecure, deeply romantic, and perpetually unprepared for every situation Ray drags him into. Critics have noted this feels like a natural evolution of the John Mulaney role in Big Mouth.

June Diane Raphael as Fawn — A deer with an unerring instinct for choosing entirely the wrong partner, including a wolf boyfriend who marks his territory all over her apartment. Raphael, a Big Mouth veteran, brings real warmth to what could have been a purely comedic role.

Sabrina Jalees as Penelope — A gay fox carrying unresolved feelings for a long-lost love, undermined at every turn by painfully clumsy social skills. Jalees is the show’s emotional wild card and one of its most talked-about performances.

Notable Guest Stars: A Comedy All-Star Swarm

The guest cast reads like the line-up of a very exclusive comedy festival. Here’s the full roster confirmed for Season 1:

A few notable character details from the season: Carlos Alazraqui (best known as Rocko in Rocko’s Modern Life and Deputy Garcia in Reno 911!) voices Fawn’s father Alan, a stag who starts dating a much younger doe named Cassie. Natasha Leggero plays a lead love facilitator at a polyamorous island that Ray and Josh visit. Maria Bamford voices Kiki, Josh’s caring mother Ellen — supportive and warm in direct contrast to his colder father Robert.

Behind the Mic: Why the Casting Works

Voice acting in adult animation lives and dies on comedic timing — the ability to land a joke in a single line reading without the support of physical performance. Mating Season understands this instinctively. The guest list isn’t random celebrity stunt casting — nearly every name has a proven track record in comedy, many from the Big Mouth universe itself.

Critics have specifically praised the voice work across the board as one of the show’s most consistent strengths, even when the writing itself is uneven.
