Athiradi Box Office: Basil Joseph & Tovino Thomas Hit Rs 15 Crore in 3 Days — Malayalam Cinema’s Next Big Hit Is Here

Malayalam cinema is on a roll in 2026, and Athiradi is the latest proof. The action comedy starring the beloved double act of Basil Joseph and Tovino Thomas has stormed out of the gates, collecting Rs 15 crore gross in just three days at the Kerala box office — and it’s only getting warmer.

Why Athiradi Is Already a Success Story?

The numbers tell one story, but the context tells another. Athiradi, directed by Arun Anirudhan, has achieved what most Malayalam films dream of — consistent audience pull across all three opening days, with a Saturday spike confirming genuine word-of-mouth momentum. A 10% jump on Day 3 isn’t accidental; it means people are recommending it.

The film is already being declared a commercial success, with industry trackers projecting it will finish as a HIT or even Super Hit by the end of its theatrical run. The opening weekend is on course to cross Rs 20 crore — a phenomenal debut for a Kerala release by any standard.

The story follows Samkutty, an overzealous college student who falls in love, rises to popularity among peers, and takes on the mission of reviving a long-banned college festival. Standing in the way is Sreekuttan Vellayani — a local goon and aspiring singer — whose history with the festival is darker than it seems. What unfolds is an entertaining clash of personalities, nostalgia, and pure masala energy that audiences have lapped up.

The Drishyam 3 Challenge Ahead

Here’s the catch — Athiradi has only one free week at the box office. Mohanlal’s massively anticipated Drishyam 3 arrives next weekend, which will eat into screens and audience attention significantly. That makes this first week absolutely crucial, and the film must maximise Sunday collections to build the strongest possible foundation before the competition arrives.
