There’s something quietly poignant about one of Tamil cinema’s biggest superstars standing at a career milestone, with the front row noticeably missing those closest to him. That’s exactly what unfolded on May 10, 2026, when Thalapathy Vijay marked a major professional event — and his children were nowhere in sight.

Thalapathy Vijay: The Milestone, The Empty Front Row

On May 10, 2026, Thalapathy Vijay celebrated a monumental milestone in his professional career. However, his estranged wife Sangeetha Sornalingam, son Jason Sanjay, and daughter Divya Saasha were all absent from the event — a noticeable gap that sent fans into a quiet frenzy.

What Vijay Once Said About Jason’s Career

Back in 2022, during promotions for Beast, Vijay spoke candidly about his son’s future during an interview with director Nelson Dilipkumar on Sun TV. He said he had given Jason full freedom to chart his own path and had never pressured him into acting.

In Vijay’s own words on his son’s choices:

“It is completely his interest. If he feels he needs my support, I will support him. They have full freedom to choose. I don’t command them, saying they have to do this or that.”

Vijay also revealed that filmmakers had approached him for Jason’s acting debut, but his son’s response was clear: “Please don’t disturb me for a couple of years. I don’t want this right now.”

So What Is Jason Sanjay Actually Doing?

Quite a lot, as it turns out. Rather than riding his father’s colossal coattails, Jason has been building his own identity — quietly and on his own terms.

Jason Sanjay’s Journey	Details
Education	Film Production Diploma — Toronto
Further study	Screenwriting degree — London
Directorial debut	Sigma (under Lyca Productions)
Lead actor	Sundeep Kishan
Current status	In production

Jason has been working on his directorial debut Sigma, produced by Lyca Productions and starring Sundeep Kishan — a project that signals he has chosen the filmmaker’s chair over the actor’s spotlight.

The concept of legacy in cinema is always complex — especially when the father in question is one of Tamil cinema’s all-time icons. Jason’s choice to pursue direction over acting, and to study abroad before attempting anything in the industry, reflects a thoughtfulness that his father clearly encouraged. The absence at Vijay’s milestone event, set against the backdrop of Sangeetha reportedly filing for divorce, adds another layer of personal complexity to an already fascinating family story.
