India’s most ambitious mythological trilogy has arrived on screen, and the numbers tell an interesting story. Krishnavataram Part 1: The Heart (Hridayam) opened in cinemas on May 7, 2026 and wrapped its first weekend on a hopeful note — not because of blockbuster-level collections, but because of the trend that built behind them.

Krishnavataram Opening Weekend Box Office — Day-by-Day Breakdown

The film collected Rs. 3.25 crore nett approx on Sunday, wrapping its opening weekend at Rs. 6.75 crore nett approx. The film also had Telugu and Tamil dubbed versions, which brought in another Rs. 50 lakh nett approx, taking the overall India tally to approximately Rs. 7 crore.

DayNett Collection
PreviewsRs. 0.40 cr
Friday (Day 1)Rs. 1.00 cr
Saturday (Day 2)Rs. 2.10 cr
Sunday (Day 3)Rs. 3.25 cr
Total (Weekend)~Rs. 7 cr

The film doubled on Saturday and jumped by 50 percent on Sunday. The occupancy level on Sunday was very good, especially in Mumbai and the Southern circuits — signalling that the film has the potential to leg out.

Krishnavataram: About the Film

Krishnavataram Part 1: The Heart is a mythological narrative reimagining the journey of Lord Krishna, tracing his path from Dwarka to Kurukshetra after parting ways with Radha, exploring his connection with people, his layered personality, and the lessons he imparts about love and life.

Directed by Hardik Gajjar, the story is told through Satyabhama’s point of view, giving a fresh take on Krishna’s journey. Siddharth Gupta plays Krishna and Sanskruti Jayana plays Satyabhama, with Sushmitha Bhat as Radha and Nivaashiyni Krishnan as Rukmini. According to Wikipedia, the film is the first instalment of a planned Krishnavataram trilogy, based on the Brahma Vaivarta Purana. ANI News

Will It Leg Out? The Mahavatar Narsimha Parallel

Last year’s Mahavatar Narsimha, an animated film on two avatars of Lord Vishnu, opened to just Rs. 1.25 crore nett on Day 1 before eventually collecting Rs. 170 crore nett in Hindi alone. Similarly, Laalo: Krishna Sada Sahayate did almost nothing in its first three weeks before exploding at the box office. Krishnavataram’s weekend trend isn’t as sharp, but the devotional genre is notoriously difficult to predict.

The target now is for weekdays to hold closer to the Saturday level and then expand in the second week. With limited screen count of around 700 and strong word-of-mouth building in key circuits, a slow-burn run is very much on the cards.

FAQs

Q: Is Krishnavataram Part 1 a hit or flop at the box office?

Too early to call — while the Rs. 7 crore opening weekend is modest given the film’s high production costs, the exponential growth from Day 1 to Day 3 suggests strong audience interest building through word-of-mouth.

Q: Is Krishnavataram a trilogy, and when does Part 2 release?

Yes, the film is the first chapter of a planned three-part series on Lord Krishna’s life, though no official release date for Part 2 has been announced yet.
