What Happened — The Rift, Titan X and the Skull Island Showdown

Monarch Season 2 came full circle, taking the story back to Skull Island. Titan X — also known as Co’cai — had emerged there but was forced back after her egg was stolen by Isabel Simmons’ agents and Kentaro Randa. Comicbook

Cate formed a bond with Titan X after an encounter with one of the numerous scarabs that protect it. With Cate’s help, Keiko recorded the acoustic sounds emitted by Titan X, which proved crucial in guiding the monster to the rift in the season finale, ensuring it returned to the Axis Mundi.

When Titan X arrives at the rift, she activates it and gives Cate a moment of respect on the way through. But the rift remains open briefly, allowing young Lee to peer through from the other side — seeing both Keiko and the older version of himself. Present-day Lee translates, telling Keiko that he was saying goodbye to her. It is one of the most emotionally devastating moments the show has ever produced. The Season 3 Tease — Rodan Changes Everything

Monarch Season 2 ends with a six-week time jump, evidently to the aftermath of Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Isabel and Kentaro have hatched a new plan inspired by the emergence of Rodan — but Lee Shaw is already on their trail. Comicbook

The closing moments of “Where We Belong” tease the arrival of Rodan — the winged kaiju who first appeared in a 1956 creature feature and officially joined Legendary’s Godzilla series in 2019’s King of the Monsters. Opening a rift isn’t easy, but Rodan’s unique ability to generate and withstand heat could allow the Titan to act as a catalyst for a rift — and Kentaro and Isabel are seemingly set to exploit Rodan just as they did Titan X.

What the Ending Means for the Monsterverse

The scene where Titan X and Cate share a moment deliberately riffs on Michelangelo’s The Creation of Adam, once again portraying Titans as gods compared to humans — and reminding viewers that the real monsters may be the humans willing to exploit them. Comicbook

Season 3 has not yet received an official green light, but the Season 2 finale presents intense sci-fi concepts, daring character turns, and a classic Godzilla Titan that works as an exceptional tease for more. A Wyatt Russell-led spinoff set in the Cold War 1980s is also in development. Follow our Apple TV+ and streaming coverage on TechnoSports for all Season 3 updates. MovieWeb
