Sergio Ramos has been the subject of contract talks and transfer rumours for a while now. The Real Madrid captain’s deal with the club expires this summer, and he will be a free agent if that comes to be, meaning he’ll be able to sign for any club in the world for no transfer fees whatsoever.

The defender has asked Real Madrid for two more years, and has remained consistent with his demands. But Florentino Perez is not willing to match the tenure being proposed by the player, offering only a single additional year. There haven’t been any talks of an option to extend the deal either.

Sergio Ramos - Real Madrid contract talks on hold

Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo have recently come out with a finding that says Ramos is willing to compromise on the financial front to remain with Los Blancos. He currently earns £315,000 with the club, and has spent 16 years at the Spanish capital having joined from Sevilla in 2005.

Over that time, he has made over 670 appearances and has scored 101 goals for the club. He is arguably the most successful Real Madrid captain in history, overseeing multiple Champions League victories and winning every trophy there is to win in club football with them.

Ramos also captains the Spanish national team and has won 2010 World Cup as well as the subsequent Euros with them. As of now, he hasn’t agreed anything with any other club and remains loyal to Real, but the association could end if no solution is found by the end of the campaign.
