Netflix’s Legends (2026): The Gritty True Story of 5 Customs Officers Who Took Down Britain’s Biggest Drug Gangs

Netflix is dropping one of its most gripping British crime dramas yet — Legends — on May 7, 2026. Based on a jaw-dropping true story, this six-episode thriller takes you deep into the shadowy world of undercover operations in 1990s Britain. If you loved gritty crime dramas, this one’s going straight to your watchlist.

What Is Legends About?

Set in 1990, during Britain’s devastating heroin epidemic, five ordinary HM Customs officers were tasked with the impossible — infiltrate the nation’s most dangerous drug gangs from the inside. With almost no resources, they used seized jewellery, impounded vehicles, and sheer nerve to bring down criminal empires.

Creator Neil Forsyth spent months interviewing the real officers and combing through court transcripts to craft this story. As he put it, the more he listened, the more extraordinary it became.

“When you go undercover, you create a false identity — that’s called your legend. When those lines get blurred, things become very dangerous.” — Neil Forsyth, Creator

A Cast That Delivers

Tom Burke plays Guy Stanton — a bored but brilliant customs officer who finds dangerous purpose going undercover. Director Brady Hood praised Burke’s ability to switch between his real identity and his “legend” with unnerving authenticity.

Hayley Squires plays Kate, a working-class officer who has witnessed the drug trade’s devastation firsthand. And Johnny Harris brings heart as Eddie, an enforcer wrestling with the show’s strongest moral dilemma.

Steve Coogan also features — catch the full cast breakdown over at TechnoSports, where we cover the latest in global entertainment and streaming.

The Look & Feel: Raw, Real, Unmistakably ’90s

Director Brady Hood deliberately avoided the sepia-toned nostalgia trap. He wanted the show to feel vibrant, dangerous, and alive — tracksuits, dance music, and all. He describes the aesthetic as “cinematic naturalism”, shot almost entirely on practical locations.

The camera never enters a room before the characters do — it goes in with them, making every scene feel like stepping into the unknown.
