A Retired Spy, a Rookie Ace & One Explosive Bromance — tvN’s New Drama Is Already 2026’s Most Exciting Confirm

What happens when a washed-up spy running a car wash teams up with an overachieving rookie stuck in a basement office? Pure K-drama gold, that’s what. Cha Seung Won and Kim Do Hoon have been officially confirmed for tvN’s new spy-action bromance drama “Retired Agent + Management Team” — and the internet is very much here for it.

Spy Drama overview

Meet the Odd-Couple Duo

Cha Seung Won plays Kim Chul Soo, a former NIS black agent who now lives as an ordinary family man running a local car wash — though his passion for being an agent never truly faded. Imagine a man built for high-stakes missions, now arguing with customers over car wax. The comedic potential is enormous.

Kim Do Hoon takes on Go Yo Han, a top “super ace” who, despite drawing attention for his outstanding performance, finds himself demoted to the basement-level Retired Agents Management Team — growing restless as opportunities to return to the field rarely come.

From their contrasting positions, the two men — both hungry for a fresh breakthrough — join forces to track down a traitor operating behind a criminal organization.

The spy fiction genre has long thrived on the unlikely-partners formula, and “Retired Agent + Management Team” looks set to bring a distinctly Korean warmth and humour to that classic setup.

What the Makers Are Saying

The production team expressed confidence in the pairing, noting that Cha Seung Won’s solid acting combined with Kim Do Hoon’s commanding presence will make their bickering chemistry and rough teamwork the key entertainment pillars of the show. They also promised a blend of action, comedy, and genuine bromance — three things K-drama fans never say no to.

The drama will be helmed by director Jin Chang Kyu, known for “Buried Hearts” and “Military Prosecutor Doberman.” A proven hand at action-driven storytelling — this one’s in safe, exciting hands.
