Cristiano Ronaldo faces an improper conduct charge from UEFA before Juventus resume their bid for Champions League glory against Ajax next month.
European football’s governing body UEFA charged Ronaldo with “improper conduct” on Monday and he could now face a ban from his side’s Champions League quarterfinal final first leg against Ajax.
Ronaldo scripted a fairytale comeback from being 0-2 down in 1st leg to win the Round of 16
An official statement read: “Following a disciplinary investigation conducted by a UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector, disciplinary proceedings have been opened following the UEFA Champions League round of 16
Charges against Juventus Football Club:
– Improper conduct of player Cristiano Ronaldo – Art. 11 (2) (b) and Art. 11 (2) (d) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations
The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body will deal with this case at its next meeting on 21 March.”
If UEFA founds Ronaldo guilty then the 33-year-old could face a ban for one to three games, but a fine is more likely. Simeone was also charged for his gesture against Juventus in the 1st leg and was subsequently fined €20,000, rather than serving a touchline ban. So Juventus will also expect the striker to receive a similar punishment.
