If you love gripping crime thrillers rooted in real events, The Scarecrow just jumped straight to the top of your watchlist. Premiering April 20, 2026 on ENA, this drama has the kind of premise that keeps you up at night — and a cast that absolutely delivers.
What Is The Scarecrow About?
The Scarecrow is a South Korean mystery thriller that follows a detective investigating a serial murder case with a former rival by his side, to uncover the true culprit. Set to premiere on ENA on April 20, 2026, it airs every Monday and Tuesday at 10 p.m. KST and will also stream on Genie TV. Wikipedia
What makes it more chilling? The story is based on the real-life Lee Chun Jae serial murder case that occurred in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, between 1986 and 1991 — the same case famously depicted in Bong Joon Ho’s acclaimed 2003 film Memories of Murder. MyDramaList
Meet the Key Characters
| Character | Actor | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Kang Tae Joo | Park Hae Soo | Demoted detective seeking redemption |
| Cha Si Young | Lee Hee Joon | Rival prosecutor with political ambitions |
| Seo Ji Won | Kwak Sun Young | Righteous reporter and Tae Joo’s classmate |
| Kang Sun Yeong | Seo Ji Hye | Supporting role |
Kwak Sun Young’s character, Seo Ji Won, is a standout. She’s a tenacious reporter for Gangseong Daily who serves as the moral conscience of the story — watching the investigation closely and refusing to let the truth be buried. As Kwak herself put it, Seo Ji Won is someone who “throws herself into things headfirst” and never stops asking questions, especially when the case spirals into a labyrinth.
