The wait just got a little longer — but honestly, it feels more fitting this way. Drishyam 3, one of the most anticipated Malayalam films of 2026, has been officially postponed from its earlier date of April 2, 2026. The makers have now locked May 21, 2026 as the new release date, which also happens to be superstar Mohanlal’s 66th birthday. What better gift for fans than Georgekutty returning to the big screen on the very day their favourite actor was born?

Mohanlal himself broke the news on social media, writing: “The past never stays silent… it only waits. Georgekutty arrives, May 21, 2026.” Goosebumps, right?

Why Drishyam 3 Was Postponed?

While the makers haven’t given an official reason, reports suggest the delay is linked to the film’s unavailability for release in GCC countries due to the current regional social environment. Whatever the backstory, the new date adds a layer of emotion and celebration to the release — and Malayalam cinema fans worldwide are already counting down.

The postponement also quietly benefits other Malayalam releases. Films like Aadu 3, Nivin Pauly’s Prathichaya (March 26), and Vaazha 2 (April 2) now have more breathing room at the box office. Read more about upcoming South Indian film releases and box office updates on TechnoSports.

What Is Drishyam 3 About?

For newcomers, the Drishyam franchise follows Georgekutty, a cable TV operator and devoted family man whose life is turned upside down when he becomes the prime suspect in the disappearance of IG Geetha Prabhakar’s son, Varun. The first film was a masterclass in suspense storytelling, and Drishyam 2 deepened the narrative beautifully.

Drishyam 3 is expected to bring Georgekutty’s journey to a new — and possibly final — chapter, with reports hinting at a dramatic sacrifice that ties the entire trilogy together.

Mohanlal’s Upcoming Film Lineup

Beyond Drishyam 3, Mohanlal is having a massive 2026. He is currently shooting L366 (with Meera Jasmine), and has projects like L367, Priyadarshan’s 100th film, Patriot (with Mammootty), Jailer 2 (with Rajinikanth), and Khalifa: Part 1 (with Prithviraj) in the pipeline.
