Case reopened. After four years since the sequel, Millie Bobby Brown is slipping back into detective mode — and this time, the adventure takes Enola all the way to the sun-soaked streets of Malta. Here’s everything you need to know before Enola Holmes 3 lands on Netflix.

Why This One Feels Different

The first two Enola Holmes films were beloved for their bright, witty energy — but this threequel is clearly gunning for something more mature. The sequel is expected to skew darker than the two prior entries and aim for an older audience, with new director Philip Barantini — best known for the intense real-time thriller Boiling Point — bringing a grittier cinematic sensibility to the franchise.

Netflix’s official logline says it all: “Adventure chases detective Enola Holmes to Malta, where personal and professional dreams collide on a case more tangled and treacherous than any she has faced before.”

The sun-drenched Mediterranean setting is a gorgeous visual departure from foggy Victorian London, and fans of the Enola Holmes character — inspired by Nancy Springer’s novels — will be thrilled to see the franchise expand its horizons in such a dramatic fashion.

The Returning Cast — All Your Favourites Are Back

Netflix confirmed the returning cast when production began in April 2025, and it’s a stacked lineup:

Millie Bobby Brown returns as Enola Holmes — fresh off wrapping Stranger Things Season 5, making this her triumphant leap back into her other iconic Netflix role. Henry Cavill is back as the legendary Sherlock Holmes, Helena Bonham Carter reprises the scene-stealing role of their mother Eudoria, and Louis Partridge returns as the charming Tewkesbury. Himesh Patel joins the returning crew as Dr. John Watson, Sharon Duncan-Brewster returns as Mira Troy, and both Susan Wokoma and Adeel Akhtar reprise their fan-favourite supporting roles.

The Malta Chapter — Food Poisoning and All

Following the UK studio shoot at Shepperton Studios, production relocated to Malta for over a month, filming across iconic locations including the historic capital Valletta, the walled city of Mdina, Mellieħa, and Malta Film Studios — employing over 360 Maltese and Gozitan crew members.

It wasn’t all smooth sailing though. Production was temporarily halted in June 2025 after several cast and crew members, including Millie Bobby Brown, fell ill following suspected contaminated seafood from on-set catering — but the affected individuals recovered quickly, and filming officially wrapped on June 27, 2025. Millie herself posted the wrap announcement with the perfect caption: “Case closed.”
