Forget the MCU for a moment. In the comics, the Avengers have just been completely rebuilt — and the lineup Marvel has assembled for Avengers: Armageddon is equal parts thrilling and surprising. With Red Hulk declaring war on Latveria and the world still reeling from Doom’s downfall, here’s every confirmed member of the 2026 Avengers team and why each one matters.

The Villain — And Why Red Hulk Is the Perfect Antagonist
The story begins exactly where One World Under Doom ends: Doctor Doom sacrifices himself to resurrect Valeria Richards, leaving a sudden power vacuum in Latveria. Thaddeus Ross, long-simmering with rage under the Red Hulk persona, moves immediately — laying waste to everyone in his path to claim Latveria as his own.
This creates the all-hands-on-deck scenario that justifies one of Marvel’s most eclectic Avengers rosters in years. Each member was selected with precise purpose: Sam Wilson’s political flexibility, Wolverine’s raw strength, Sue Storm’s tactical deployment. This isn’t just a superhero pile-on — it’s a chess match being played against a gamma-powered monster with territorial ambitions.
Wolverine even gets his own tie-in prequel — Wolverine: Weapons of Armageddon #1 — introducing a missing mutant named Tyler who mirrors his powers and adds a Weapon X subplot that Red Hulk could exploit as a distraction.
Why This Matters for the MCU Too
Avengers: Armageddon arrives just weeks before Avengers: Doomsday (May 1, 2026) hits cinemas. Sam Wilson as Captain America, Invisible Woman’s prominence ahead of Fantastic Four: First Steps, and Spider-Man’s inclusion that directly previews his Brand New Day story — every casting choice in this comic roster feels like a deliberate mirror of where the MCU is heading.
