Suriya’s Vishwanath and Sons Is NOT a Remake of Kangaroo — Here’s the Truth Behind the Viral Rumour

If you’ve been scrolling through South Indian film forums lately, chances are you’ve stumbled across the rumour that Suriya’s upcoming family drama Vishwanath and Sons is a remake of Prithviraj Sukumaran’s 2007 Malayalam hit Kangaroo. The internet ran with it — but here’s what actually checks out.

Vishwanath and Sons — Complete Film Info

So Where Did the Kangaroo Remake Rumour Come From?

There were initial reports that the film was a remake of Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Kangaroo, a 2007 Malayalam action-comedy featuring the story of an auto-rickshaw driver who accidentally gets responsibility for a child, eventually uncovering the secrets behind the child’s parentage.

It’s easy to see why the internet connected the dots — Vishwanath and Sons’ first-look poster features Suriya with a baby, and Kangaroo has a broadly similar premise. But that’s where the similarity ends.

According to 123Telugu, the reports about Vishwanath and Sons being a remake are completely baseless, with the film said to be based on an original screenplay penned by director Venky Atluri. So fans can relax — this is a fresh story, not a retelling.

What Is Vishwanath and Sons Actually About?

While the full plot hasn’t been officially revealed, the first-look posters paint a picture of a warm, wholesome family entertainer. Venky Atluri, known for delivering emotionally rooted Telugu films, is expected to bring that signature heartfelt touch to this one too.

The cast is stellar — Mamitha Baiju (who impressed audiences in Love, the Malayalam film), Raveena Tandon, and the legendary Radikaa Sarathkumar all coming together around Suriya makes this one of the most anticipated Tamil releases of mid-2026.

What’s Next for Suriya Before July?

Suriya is next set to appear in the lead role in Karuppu, a fantasy action film directed by RJ Balaji, starring Trisha Krishnan as co-lead and revolving around a lawyer who becomes possessed by a deity and fights against injustice — expected to hit theatres in April 2026.

Looking further ahead, Suriya has also begun work on Suriya47, a cop action-comedy directed by Jithu Madhavan of Aavesham fame, where he plays an easygoing, eccentric police officer, with Nazriya Nazim Fahadh as co-lead.
