Skyroot’s Vikram-I: India’s First Private Orbital Rocket Eyes Space Cab Role

India’s private space revolution is no longer a promise — it’s taking shape on a launchpad. Skyroot Aerospace has declared Vikram-I “launch-ready,” with its maiden orbital flight targeted from Sriharikota in 2026, and the company has far bigger ambitions than a one-time launch — it wants to be India’s go-to “space cab” for small satellites.

Vikram-I at a Glance

Why This Is a Milestone for India

Vikram-I is the first fully private orbital-class launch vehicle in India, allowing satellite operators to bypass dependency on rideshare slots on larger rockets and gain direct access to orbit. So far, both launchpads at Sriharikota have only ever launched rockets built by ISRO — Vikram-I changes that permanently.

The company aims to scale production to one orbital rocket per month from its 200,000 sq ft Infinity Campus in Hyderabad. For more on India’s growing space sector, follow TechnoSports’ science and tech coverage.

The “Space Cab” Vision

The 24-hour launch call-up time is what sets Vikram-I apart from the competition. On-demand launches rival global leaders like Rocket Lab, whose Electron rocket dominates the commercial small-satellite LEO market.

India’s private space sector has 200+ startups and is projected to reach $44 billion by 2033 — and Skyroot intends to be the launch backbone of that ecosystem. Stay updated on Indian space news at TechnoSports and follow the official Skyroot Aerospace updates.
