“I Live in Your Time” C-Drama: Zhang Ruonan & Wang Anyu Are the Reunited Lovers We Didn’t Know We Needed

If the phrase “lovers reunited after five years” just made your heart do something involuntary — welcome, you’re exactly who this drama was made for. I Live in Your Time (想把你和时间藏起来) has just been announced, pairing two of Chinese drama’s most quietly compelling stars: Zhang Ruonan and Wang Anyu. Adapted from Bei Qing’s novel of the same name and helmed by an acclaimed director, this one already has the DNA of a slow-burn modern classic.

Chinese romance novels, according to Wikipedia, have become one of the most powerful pipelines for C-drama adaptations — and Bei Qing’s source material, with its emotionally layered “second chance” premise, fits that tradition beautifully.

I Live in Your Time — Key Details at a Glance

Why This Pairing Has Fans Genuinely Excited

Let’s start with the obvious: the casting is superb. Zhang Ruonan is fresh off a record-breaking run with The First Frost — one of Netflix’s most-watched C-dramas of 2025 — where she proved she can anchor an entire romance on quiet emotional intelligence alone. Wang Anyu, meanwhile, has built a devoted fanbase through variety shows and proved his romantic lead credentials convincingly in previous dramas. Together, they bring exactly the kind of understated, lived-in chemistry that makes second-chance romance stories hit so differently from first-love narratives.

The director’s track record makes this even more compelling. Huang Tian Jen gave us the emotionally devastating Someday or One Day and the beautifully paced Amidst a Snowstorm of Love — two dramas that understood exactly how to let feeling accumulate slowly until it overwhelms you. That sensibility is perfect for a story built around five years of missed time and the question of whether love survives the gap.

The Billing Controversy — A Storm in a Teacup?

No C-drama announcement is complete without fan discourse, apparently. The cast reveal listed Zhang Ruonan’s name first despite an “equal billing” declaration — and since alphabetical order would place Wang Anyu first, some fans felt the billing wasn’t truly equal. Both fanbases weighed in. It’s the kind of pre-production drama that ultimately says very little about the show itself, but everything about how passionately invested fans already are in their respective stars.

The more important story? A First Frost star, a fan-favourite variety heartthrob, a beloved novel, and a director who understands emotional restraint. That combination deserves more attention than name-order debates.
