Cristiano Ronaldo’s captain armband of the game against Serbia was put up on auction to raise funds for the treatment of a Serbian child.
Cristiano Ronaldo threw the armband at the end of the game in disgust. The Portuguese talisman has almost scored the winner for his side at the last minute of the game. But the goal was denied by the officials, and Ronaldo was shown a yellow card for his protest. After that incident, Ronaldo left the pitch. Before leaving, he threw his captain’s armband to the ground with disgust.
Later it was seen that the ball was pretty behind the goal-line, but the referee failed to notice that. As there was no goal-line technology for the matches of FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Portugal was denied a sure win against Serbia. The match was ended in a 2-2 draw.
However, that armband was recollected and is now being used to raise money for a sick child in Serbia. A stadium worker collected the armband from the ground and donated it to a children’s organization, which was seeking funds for a six-month-old Serbian child with spinal muscular atrophy. The child needs 2.5 million euros for his treatment and operation.
According to the report by the Serbian newspaper Telegraf, it had already become a national record in regards to sporting equipment after just a few hours of it going up for auction. It is believed that it will hit the necessary figure quite easily.
