Marcos Llorente has gone on to become one of the most important players in Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid team, which still has a four-point cushion at the top of the La Liga table. The midfielder has registered 10 goals and 9 assists this campaign across all competitions and has become a lot more versatile and comfortable in the heart of the park under the Argentinian.
Manchester United have now reportedly tabled an offer worth £68.5 million to try and sign the player. The Rojiblancos have not yet responded or declined the bid, but the interest from Manchester United seems concrete due to the fact that Paul Pogba will be leaving the club at the end of the season as announced by his agent, Mino Raiola.
Scott McTominay and Fred will also need to be rotated while Nemanja Matic is not a regular for the club in any capacity. A 26-year-old Llorente could be exactly what United need to step up their game and emerge as realistic competitors for the Premier League title.
Llorente was not a regular when he first made the move from Real Madrid to Atletico but has now become an essential part of the team. And it all came to a turning point when he scored the vital goal to knock Liverpool out of last season’s Champions League at Anfield itself.
Whether or not United are able to capture the player is something that will only become clear in the summer, but for now, he will continue to feature for the La Liga table toppers to earn them their first league title since 2014.
