Looking for your next Malayalam film binge on OTT? Bha Bha Ba might catch your eye with its star-studded cast featuring Dileep, Mohanlal, and Vineeth Sreenivasan—but should you actually hit play? After its theatrical run, this action-comedy has landed on ZEE5, and unfortunately, it’s a prime example of how star power alone can’t rescue poor storytelling.

What’s the Story About?

Bha Bha Ba kicks off with an intriguing premise: the Chief Minister of Kerala gets kidnapped by a mysterious figure calling himself “the Commoner.” This vigilante invites citizens to submit their grievances so he can force the CM to address them directly. Sounds promising, right?

The kidnapper is revealed as Ram Damodar (nicknamed Radar), portrayed by Dileep, a mentally troubled individual with a hidden connection to the CM. As police scramble to rescue the minister, the film attempts to blend action, comedy, and social commentary—but spectacularly fails on all fronts.

The Good (Yes, There’s Minimal Positivity)

Credit where it’s due: Gopi Sundar’s background score delivers some genuinely thrilling moments. The reuse of “Sona Sona” during a fight sequence provides nostalgic fun, and the cinematography by Armo occasionally impresses with Leo-inspired visuals.

The film’s meta-references and nostalgic callbacks to classic Malayalam cinema offer fleeting entertainment for hardcore fans. Mohanlal’s cameo, though wasted, momentarily elevates the energy before everything crashes back to mediocrity.

The Bad (Where Do We Even Start?)

Bha Bha Ba represents everything wrong with lazy filmmaking. The script feels like it was written during a power outage, relying entirely on celebrity references instead of actual humor. The forced Thalapathy Vijay fan moments and gratuitous star cameos scream desperation rather than creativity.

Dileep struggles to recapture his comedic brilliance from earlier films, delivering a performance that feels phoned-in. The Sreenivasan brothers (Vineeth and Dhyan) try valiantly to inject life into the chaos but are hamstrung by weak writing. Even legendary Malayalam actor Mohanlal’s extended cameo can’t rescue this sinking ship.

The music by Shaan Rahman disappoints massively, with tracks that add zero value. Editor Ranjan Pramod should have chopped at least 45 minutes from this bloated runtime—seriously, why is this longer than some Marvel movies?

Why This Matters for Malayalam Cinema

This film exemplifies the dangerous trend of “meta” cinema done wrong. While innovative Malayalam films continue pushing creative boundaries, Bha Bha Ba relies on cheap nostalgia without substance. It’s the cinematic equivalent of a YouTube compilation video—all references, zero heart.
