Intel’s Raptor Lake to be its last 10nm SuperFin offering

Many speculations are going around the internet about the intel’s so-called Raptor Lake line-up. Though currently, the team blue seems to be busy with its Rocket Lake CPUs’ launching, sources indicate that intel will soon launch the 10nm CPU line-up, dubbed the Raptor Lake, before moving on to the 7nm process nodes.

According to sources, Intel’s 2020-2022 Desktop & Mobile CPU families roadmap includes Raptor Lake as the 2022 Core lineup. The line-up has officially confirmed that Intel’s Raptor Lake lineup will be the last 10nm SuperFin offering before Intel goes sub-10nm for desktop and mobile platforms.

Reports indicate that Intel Raptor Lake will be replacing Alder Lake, but Alder Lake is the 12th Gen’ CPUs and will be the first Intel CPUs to utilize a hybrid core design approach while being based on the 10nm Enhanced SuperFin process. They will also support DDR5 and PCIe 5.0.

It is indicated that Raptor Lake will carry most of these features from Alder Lake with slight upgrades to the platform and core changes. According to sources, the Raptor Lake lineup will get new hybrid CPU core changes for improved core performance. Since Alder Lake maxes out at 16 cores and 24 threads, it is expected that Raptor Lake would reuse these cores.

The Raptor Lake CPUs for the desktop will also utilize DDR5-4800 and will feature up to 48 PCIe Gen 5 lanes, mobility variants will get support for new LPDDR5X memory and also get a new DLVR power delivery system.

Until now, Intel has officially confirmed Rocket Lake, Alder Lake, and Lunar Lake but has yet to mention anything about Raptor Lake and Meteor Lake. So there is still a chance of the Raptor Lake getting canned. But, we will not see a 7nm CPU launch from Intel until 2023.
