Moonrise Anime: Overview

What Is Moonrise About?

Set in the year TS 2XXX AD, the Moonrise anime explores a dystopian future where humanity has established a “relaxed world government” controlled by an AI network called Sapientia. When Earth begins sending pollutants and criminals to the moon, tensions escalate between the prosperous Earth and the impoverished lunar colony, igniting a War of Independence.

The series follows two compelling protagonists: Jacob “Jack” Shadow (voiced by Chiaki Kobayashi) and Phil Ashe (voiced by Yuto Uemura), who find themselves caught in this interplanetary conflict.

Why Anime Fans Are Excited

Director Masashi Koizuka describes the production as WIT Studio’s first space opera, noting the team worked with “real excitement and madness” to create something extraordinary. The animation studio has previously delivered masterpieces like Vinland Saga, Spy x Family, and the early seasons of Attack on Titan.

Character designer Hiromu Arakawa brings her signature style that made Fullmetal Alchemist a global phenomenon, promising visually stunning characters that blend realism with classic anime aesthetics.
