In the market for handheld gaming devices, it is completely evident that Nintendo is the undisputed champion amongst all. Though we have seen startups like Aya, launching their Neo product with success, and also we have heard that Microsoft is working on a portable machine.
But, the fact remains that Nintendo is the undisputed champion in the market. We have long heard the reports that Nintendo submitted a revised Switch model to the FCC. But, recently, we have started hearing rumors about Nintendo working on a more powerful version of its Switch.
According to sources, NVIDIA will soon stop producing the Tegra X1 ‘Mariko’, which Nintendo uses in the Switch and the Switch Lite. So, if the recent reports are to be believed, Nintendo plans to equip a new Switch to a 7-inch OLED display, which would be quite the upgrade from the 6.2-inch IPS displays found in the current Switch and Switch Lite.
The unavailability of the Tegra X1 ‘Mariko’ implies that Nintendo would need to revise both the Switch and the Switch Lite. The new Switch might also be equipped with an OLED display to run at 720p, not 1080p.
According to the rumors going around, the new Switch will be a more powerful version of the current console rather than a next-generation model. If a Switch Pro or Super Switch comes to market this year, then we doubt that Nintendo will release a next-generation console for at least another couple of years.
