The patience of Dean Henderson finally rewarded him.
Dean Henderson is going to be the number 1 goalkeeper this month for Manchester United as David De Gea will be absent for the rest of the month due to personal reasons.
The Spanish goalkeeper has returned to Spain to be with his pop star partner Edurne who is expecting their first child. At first, De Gea wanted to continue playing for United. But manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer suggested him to stay with his family until after the international break later this month.
However, this opens the door for Dean Henderson to make his mark in the first team. Dean Henderson was in excellent form last season when he was at Sheffield United on loan. But after returning to Manchester United, he was not getting enough chances as David De Gea has almost cemented his place in the first team.
It was also rumoured that Dean Henderson could leave the club in January to have regular first-team football as England boss Garry Southgate told him to do so to be the number 1 of his national team in the UEFA Euro Cup. But he stayed at Old Trafford and waited for his opportunity.
Manchester United will play 6 matches this month, and Dean Henderson will be the first choice for each one of them. It is his opportunity to show up his ability in these matches.
Henderson was involved in United’s 0-0 draw in Selhurst Park against Crystal Palace on Wednesday. The 23-year-old made some excellent saves to keep the clean sheet.
