Up until the summer of 2020, Lautaro Martinez was one of the most sought after strikers in the world. However, all the buzz around the player seems to have faded now. Partly the reason behind that is the €111 million release clause in his contract at Inter Milan that not many clubs are capable of paying in the current situation.
The Argentinian is still earning the salary of his first contract with Inter Milan that he signed in 2018. Speaking on the contract situation surrounding the 23-year-old on the Here We Go podcast on Patreon, Fabrizio Romano and Francesco Porzio said that negotiations between the club and the player are on.
Martinez’s agent and Inter’s representatives are meeting to discuss an extension of the player’s contract. The Argentinian’s current deal at the San Siro is till the end of the 22/23 season, and while that isn’t until a considerable amount of time, clubs must be cautious about contract situations with players like these.
With all that said, should a mutual agreement not be found in the discussions between the two parties, we could see the rumours linking Martinez to a move away from Milan double in number to a frenzy once again.
