Apple has introduced a new toggle feature in iOS 26.1 that allows users to adjust the opacity of the Liquid Glass interface elements on iPhones. This development addresses user feedback regarding the initial transparency of Liquid Glass, giving users the option to switch between a clearer, more transparent look and a tinted, frosted glass effect for better legibility.

The Liquid Glass toggle is found under Settings > Display & Brightness > Liquid Glass, with the options labeled “Clear” and “Tinted.” This feature is currently available in the iOS 26.1 developer beta, with a public release expected soon. The tinted option enhances opacity and contrast, improving readability across notifications and app menus without significantly affecting other parts of the OS like Control Center or app icons.

Step	Action	Description
1	Open Settings	Access the iPhone’s settings from the home screen
2	Go to Display & Brightness	Locate the display-related settings
3	Tap on Liquid Glass	Find the Liquid Glass toggle option
4	Choose Clear or Tinted	Select “Clear” for more transparency or “Tinted” for a frosted effect

This toggle allows users to customize the UI’s look to their preference, balancing aesthetics and usability.

What is Liquid Glass on iPhone?

Liquid Glass is a visual design element introduced by Apple in iOS 26. It applies a translucent, glass-like effect to various UI components such as notification backgrounds and menus. This creates a sleek, modern appearance but initially faced feedback regarding its legibility, prompting Apple to add the opacity toggle.

Why Use the Liquid Glass Toggle?

Improved Readability: The tinted option reduces transparency, increasing contrast for easier reading.
Customization: Users can tailor the appearance of iOS to their preference.
Enhanced UI Experience: Balances aesthetics with functional clarity, especially useful in different lighting conditions.

Alongside the Liquid Glass toggle, iOS 26.1 introduces a feature to disable the swipe-to-camera function from the lock screen, enhancing privacy by preventing unauthorized access to the camera without unlocking the device.
