Boss Type	1v1 Duel with Flute Mechanic

Step-by-Step Walkthrough

Step 1: Unlock the Quest from Kojiro

Before you can face Soma, you must complete every other bounty in Yotei Grasslands. Once finished, return to Kojiro who will offer the Soma the Condemned bounty—the region’s ultimate challenge.

Step 2: Journey to Lake Jozan

Head northwest from Yotei Grasslands to reach Lake Jozan. Upon arrival, you’ll encounter several enemies guarding the approach. Clear them out efficiently, then proceed along the path until you reach a massive cave entrance.

Key Detail: Listen carefully—you’ll hear haunting flute music echoing from behind the locked wooden door. This is your first clue that Soma awaits inside.

Step 3: Unlock the Musical Door

Here’s where Ghost of Yotei’s unique mechanics shine. The door won’t budge through brute force. Instead:

Equip your Shamisen by swiping left on the Touchpad
Play the “Song of Soma” while standing before the gate
Watch as the door opens automatically when the melody concludes

This musical puzzle sets the atmospheric tone for the entire encounter, blending combat with artistry—a signature element of the Ghost series.

Step 4: Navigate the Cave System

Cave Navigation Quick Guide:

Section	Action Required
First cliff	Jump to reach opposite side
Tree branch	Use as bridge to solid ground
Right path	Follow to find small tunnel
Tunnel passage	Crawl through to next cave area
Bamboo door	Use grappling hook to break through

The cave exploration tests your traversal skills. Jump between cliffs, balance across tree branches, and crawl through tight spaces. When you reach the bamboo door, deploy your grappling hook to pull it open—triggering a cutscene that reveals Soma.

Step 5: Defeat Soma in Combat

Despite being the final Yotei Grasslands bounty, Soma isn’t overwhelmingly difficult. According to Sportskeeda’s detailed guide, he’s actually easier than many late-game enemies.

Winning Strategy:

Early Aggression: Strike first and maintain pressure
Pattern Recognition: Watch his defensive stance and attack timing
Block Timing: Defend when he counterattacks
Momentum: Keep the offensive-defensive cycle flowing

Soma primarily defends initially, but after taking hits, he’ll switch to offense. Master the rhythm of attacking and blocking to dominate the duel without taking significant damage.

Step 6: The Emotional Conclusion

After defeating Soma, an unexpected twist awaits. Rather than a typical victory, Soma makes a final request—asking you to play the Shamisen together one last time. This poignant moment humanizes your opponent and exemplifies Ghost of Yotei’s narrative depth.

Fulfill his dying wish by playing alongside him. When the music fades, the quest concludes, and you’ll receive the coveted Bounty Master Armor and 1,500 coins.

Why This Quest Matters
