After today’s confirmed launch rumor about the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870, the US chipmaker has indeed launched its new flagship mobile chipset with 5G support.
It features both the Snapdragon X55 5G Modem-RF System and the Qualcomm FastConnect 6800 Subsystem for excellent connectivity. This enables insanely-fast 5G connectivity with peak speeds up to 7.5 Gbps along with support for mmWave, Sub-6 GHz, TDD, FDD, and Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS).
Coming to specs, the Snapdragon 870 features the new Kryo 585 CPU that offers up to 3.2 GHz computing speed. It is still based on the 7 nm process instead of the 5 nm which you see on its brother flagship the Snapdragon 888. In terms of RAM support, the chipset supports up to 2750MHz LPDDR5 RAM.
For GPU, you have the ultra-fast Qualcomm Adreno 650 GPU and for connectivity, you get Wi-Fi 6 with support up to 1.774 Gbps internet speed, also you have support for Bluetooth 5.2. On the camera front, you have the new Qualcomm Spectra 480 ISP that allows up to 200 MP single camera support.
You can also record videos with Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support, while on the display front, the chip can support up to 4K @ 60 Hz, QHD+ @ 144 Hz displays with HDR10+ support. For charging, you have Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ technology.
Then there are useful features like the Qualcomm Aqstic Audio Technologies that offers native DSD support, PCM up to 384 kHz/32-bit and Qualcomm aptX Adaptive audio support. You then have a Hexagon Voice Assistant Accelerator for advanced voice use cases .
Gamers can enjoy HDR game rendering, featuring 10-bit color depth and 2020 color gamut on Snapdragon 870 powered smartphones. The chipmaker also promises strong AI performance with the inclusion of the 5th gen Qualcomm Artificial Intelligence (AI) Engine includes the Qualcomm Hexagon 698 Processor.
