Call of Duty Black Ops 6 Mandates TPM 2.0 & Secure Boot for PC Gaming

The RICOCHET Anti-Cheat system is evolving beyond software solutions to leverage hardware-level security features built into modern PCs. These Windows-based protections ensure games launch from a secure, tamper-free foundation, making cheating significantly more difficult.

Hardware-Level Cheat Prevention

TPM 2.0 (Trusted Platform Module) verifies your PC’s boot process hasn’t been tampered with, while Secure Boot ensures only trusted software loads during Windows startup. Together, they create an unprecedented security barrier against hardware-level cheating methods.

The system works through Platform Configuration Registers (PCRs) that record startup details, detecting any security changes. Remote Attestation allows Call of Duty servers to verify your PC’s trusted state before allowing online play.

Account Security Enhancements

Beyond hardware requirements, Activision is strengthening account protection through mandatory email verification and encouraging Two-Factor Authentication (2FA). The Account Link Verification system has already protected “tens of thousands of accounts from potential hijacking” since Season 03.

Ranked Play Integrity Focus

Game Pass Free Trial accounts on PC will lose access to Ranked Play starting Season 05, requiring active subscriptions or game ownership. New detection tools specifically target boosting and teaming violations, with permanent bans for extreme cases.

Legal Action Escalates

RICOCHET’s enforcement extends beyond software, targeting 22 additional cheat developers with legal action. Since Black Ops 6’s launch, nearly 40 cheat vendors have been shut down through coordinated legal and technical strikes.

Preparing for Black Ops 7

PC players have until Black Ops 7‘s release to enable TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot. In-game notifications will alert non-compliant systems starting Season 05. Activision provides detailed setup instructions to help players prepare.

The implementation raises questions about privacy and performance, but Activision emphasizes these features only verify system integrity without accessing personal files or impacting gameplay performance.
