With the 2022/23 season now in the books, which are the top 5 clubs not in UEFA Champions League 23/24?
The UEFA Champions League will be without some big names next season. Now that the domestic seasons across most of Europe are over, we have the list of the teams that will make it to the top flight of European football through their domestic leagues.
With the highs, lows and surprises of the 22/23 season, here are the top 5 clubs not in the UEFA Champions League next season.
Top 5 clubs not in UEFA Champions League 23/24
5. Ajax
The Amsterdam-based side have been regulars in the UEFA Champions League for the last few seasons. But, they will not be in the competition in the coming season due to their third-placed finish in the Eredivisie. It has been a rare trophyless season for Ajax in 2022/23, and they will be disappointed at the way things have gone after the departure of Erik Ten Hag. The club will have an important summer ahead of them to rebuild the squad and make some crucial appointments to set things right next season. They will play in the Europa League qualifiers for a spot in the second tier.
4. Tottenham HotspurÂ
Things really took a turn for worse when Antonio Conte was sacked towards the end of the season. When the Italian left, Spurs were still in the race for top four. But now, they have finished outside European spots altogether and run the risk of losing their star striker, Harry Kane. Really troubling times to be a Tottenham fan right now.
3. Juventus
On the final day of the Serie A season, Juventus were able to finish in seventh place and make it to the Europa Conference League. Their 10-point deduction has seen them miss out on a second-place finish and qualify for the Champions League. Although they have not been the same club that dominated Italy over the last decade recently, they are undergoing a rebuild and have an exciting season coming up ahead even though it is without Champions League football.
2. Chelsea
Spending over £600 million to secure their worst finish in almost three decades, Chelsea are one of the top 5 clubs not in UEFA Champions League 23/24. They have finished an abysmal 12th in the Premier League, having gone through three managerial changes this very season. It will be interesting to see how things turn out for the Blues in the coming season, with Mauricio Pochettino now announced as the new head coach of a young squad in dire need of leadership.
1. Liverpool
Jurgen Klopp’s Reds had a blip of a season, and they finished outside of the top four for the first time under the German. The six-time UEFA Champions League winners have been regulars in the knockout stages of the UCL, but will not participate in the tournament at all next season. Considering their quality, and how impactful they have been, they sit atop the list of the top 5 clubs not in Champions League 23/24.
