The Deleted Scene That Almost Changed Everything — Why 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple

Sometimes the most revealing thing about a film isn’t what made it into the final cut — it’s what was left on the floor. And the newly surfaced deleted scene from 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is a perfect example of that. It’s funny, it’s layered, it fills a gap that critics noticed, and yet director Nia DaCosta had a very good reason to cut it.

What Happens in the 28 Years Later Deleted Scene?

Shared exclusively by IGN on February 16, 2026, the scene — titled Bend to His Will — picks up just as Sir Lord Jimmy Crystal (Jack O’Connell) and Dr. Ian Kelson (Ralph Fiennes) are parting ways after their initial meeting. Walking away from Kelson, Jimmy turns to wave, then suddenly freezes. Alpha infected Samson (Chi Lewis-Parry) is approaching in the distance. Kelson calmly waves at Samson; Samson bellows back. And Jimmy? He bolts — sprinting back toward his followers like an absolute coward. Cinemablend

The scene functions as a callback to young Jimmy running for his life during the first outbreak, revealing that the adult villain is still just a scared boy hiding behind his Satanic facade. GamesRadar+ Fans online immediately lost it — one Twitter user wrote that his panicked run made Jimmy look like a complete loser, in the most endearing way possible.

Why Was It Cut?

Director Nia DaCosta’s decision to cut the scene was based on thematic coherence. Her vision positioned Jimmy and Samson’s stories as contrasting explorations of monstrosity versus humanity — and the deleted scene, while delivering a rare lighthearted beat, would have undermined that deeper resonance. pinkvilla The two parallel storylines were always meant to feel disconnected until they collide at the climax, and having Jimmy visibly cower before Samson early on would have softened that thematic tension.

FilmoGaz The deleted scene, ironically, would have added a comedic layer that humanized the film’s most terrifying human villain — which is exactly why it was too good to keep in.
