NVIDIA begins shipping its GeForce RTX 4080 with new AD103-301 silicon

NVIDIA AIB partners have begun shipping GeForce RTX 4080 graphics cards equipped with the new AD103-301 GPU silicon. The new GPU will enable manufacturers to produce an AD103 variant with less overhead.

NVIDIA was said to have informed board partners about the new graphics card variants (XX0/XX1), as well as updates to the specifications of the RTX 4070 non-Ti GPUs. HKEPC (@hkepcmedia on Twitter) published a list of upcoming NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 series cards a few days ago.

Consumers will first see the “250” variation with a “comparator circuit,” with the “251” GPU following two weeks later and not requiring the same circuit, according to NVIDIA partners. The latter model will use fewer components in its development, lowering customer costs slightly.

The changes have also been applied to the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 GPUs. According to reports, the two cards perform identically with the same features.

The RTX 4080 variants will have the same configuration, TDP, and clock speeds. This means that the CUDA core is 9728 and runs at 2505 MHz. Gainward currently lists all three of its APAC variants with the AD104-300 and AD104-301 GPUs.

NVIDIA has an advantage due to AMD’s recent RX 7900 XTX GPU issues, but with the high cost of NVIDIA cards in general, it is unclear which company will thrive as we approach 2023.
