President Murmu: India needs to become a Hub of Sofware Products

After demonstrating its software prowess, India should aim to become a software product centre, said President Droupadi Murmu on Saturday. Murmu stated during the 7th edition of the Digital India Awards that there should be an emphasis on democratising government data to assist technology enthusiasts in the country in developing localised digital solutions.

“We should leverage the prevailing policies and avail the ecosystem to position the country as a global powerhouse of software and hardware products by building made in India technology,” Murmu said.

She stated that India has emerged as an important country in terms of using technology for people-centric governance, particularly during the epidemic, which has benefited the rest of the world.

“Digital India is also playing an important role in enhancing the country’s profile on the world stage. This becomes all the more relevant as India takes over the presidency of G20 which is a milestone event,” Murmu said.

On December 1, 2022, India formally took the G20 Presidency.

She stated that India has introduced indigenously built 5G technology, and that the deployment of 5G services will alter governance.

“We should focus on democratising government data so that young technology enthusiasts can use it to build localised digital solutions,” Murmu said. The President presented awards to 22 government institutions in the sphere of digital governance at the ceremony.
