Barcelona’s appeal to overturn the three-match ban handed to Robert Lewandowski has been rejected. The striker was sent off during the game against Osasuna for two yellow cards in the first half.

That would normally mean that the player wouldn’t be available for the following game. But, Lewandowski made a gesture pointing to his nose and then the referee, suggesting that he was ‘on something’ while he was coming off.

Robert Lewandowski to face three-match ban

Upon investigation, the striker was allowed to feature in their game against Espanyol, despite protests. During the derby against Espanyol, their president and board refused to attend the fiery game – which ended in a draw.

But now, the Tribunal Administrativo del Deporte has asserted that Robert Lewandowski must serve a three-match ban for his actions.

The Poland international defended himself by saying that the action was directed at Barcelona manager Xavi, as part of a previous conversation. However, that hasn’t helped his case, as he will be missing the next three La Liga games against Atletico Madrid, Getafe, and Girona.

The Catalonian side have the option to file yet another appeal for the ban to be served at a later date. But, that decision rests on club president Joan Laporta as of now.
