Samsung rumored to develop new custom SoCs for Mobile phones ditching the Exynos brand completely

Samsung only employing the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for the Galaxy S23 series is solid evidence that the company’s mobile chipset division is in tatters. Not wanting to fall behind Qualcomm and Apple, the Korean conglomerate is said to have formed a custom SoC development team for this purpose.

With Qualcomm Oryon expected to launch in 2024 and Apple at the top of the rankings thanks to its strong and efficient A-series silicon, The Elec says that Samsung intends to keep a healthy level of rivalry. The company has developed a team completely committed to designing a custom mobile SoC, according to the most recent information, albeit the official name has not been given.

This hints that Samsung may ditch the Exynos moniker entirely, however it is unclear whether ARM’s Cortex cores will still be included in the new SoC cluster.

Regardless, the new division will be overseen by Executive Vice President Choi Won-joon, who was also named the leader of Samsung’s MX Development during the company’s annual reorganisation.

Samsung was previously said to have collaborated with Google and AMD’s Radeon teams to develop a new mobile chipset, however it is unclear whether this team is devoted to a flagship Exynos launch or the unknown SoC. This unique solution, we believe, will likely come only for a future Galaxy S series, with Samsung previously reported to finish its design by 2023, with an unveiling perhaps occurring in 2025.

Of course, it is not as simple as it sounds, as there are significant difficulties that must be overcome in order to create a capable chipset, beginning with Samsung’s Foundry business, which must also be much enhanced.
