Barcelona headed into their game against Bayern Munich last night knowing that they had been eliminated from the Champions League. And the 3-0 loss to the German giants only made things worse for them in the evening.

This summer, the Spanish side spent a considerable amount on signing new players for Xavi Hernandez. The aim was to build a competitive side that could progress deep into Europe. But, they have been knocked out in the group stage itself.

As per Mundo Deportivo, the club had budgeted the season expecting to reach the quarter finals of the Champions League. This would have made up for their expenses by a considerable amount this season.

So far, they have earned a sum worth €67.18 million: €34.11 milion was given based on their historical ranking, while €15.64 million was paid for entry into the group stages. They earned €2.7 million for a win and €0.93 million for a draw so far.

On top of that, the Catalans also received around €13.8 million thanks to the Provisional ‘Market pool’. They will receive another €2.7 million if they win against Viktoria Plzen in their last game, and €0.5 million more based on the market pool.

However, they will be losing up to €20.2 million by not being able to compete in the knockout stages. And ticket sales will push this amount up to €30 million.

If Barcelona win the Europa League, they will receive a total of €14.9 million. Adding ticket sales to this amount will reduce the losses to some extent. But if last season is any indication of what can happen, then the club could be in for a very tough season financially.
