Shai Hope: West Indies opener scores century on 100th ODI, enters elite company

After his excellent innings, West Indies wicket-keeper Shai Hope joined an elite list that also included Shikhar Dhawan, Chris Gayle, Kumar Sangakkara, and others. On his 100th ODI appearance, the Caribbean opener mercilessly punished India by scoring a century.

In the second ODI between India and West Indies, a magnificent 115-ball performance by Hope enabled the visitors to set a lofty target for India to reach.

Shai Hope of the West Indies was the first hitter, and he was determined to make a major impact right away. West Indies is keen to draw the match in the second ODI after suffering a defeat in the first ODI.

In his 100th ODI match, Hope became only the 10th batsman to reach the century mark. First to accomplish this accomplishment was Gordon Greenidge.

Hope became the third West Indies hitter to accomplish this exceptional milestone, however only a select few players have been able to do so. The only team with numerous cricketers who set this mark is West Indies. The list made by Chris Gayle and Ramnaresh Sarwan is followed by Hope.

West Indies defeated the Men in Blue by scoring 311 thanks to Shai Hope’s magnificent innings. 8 fours and 3 sixes made up his 115 runs off just 135 deliveries. Hope played in three innings that lasted 50 or more. Hope is one of the most effective batsmen in the ODI version of the game, with an average of more than 50.

Hope’s outstanding hit elevates him to the level of some of the game’s greatest players. Hope spearheaded the Caribbean region’s offensive against India all by herself. Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur removed him toward the end of the innings.
