Alexandre Lacazette officially leaves Arsenal after 206 appearances

Alexandre Lacazette has officially left Arsenal as a free agent upon the expiry of his contract. He was not offered a new deal by the North London side, and his departure has been confirmed by the club on their official site.

The striker is close to returning to Lyon, with the French side pursuing the forward’s signature once again. In five years, he scored 71 goals in 206 appearances for Arsenal, winning the FA Cup with them in 2020.

Alexandre Lacazette leaves Arsenal as contract expires

“I want to keep all the good moments I had in the club, because for me it was just a pleasure to play for a club that, since I was young, I dreamt of,” Alexandre Lacazette recently told the Arsenal website.

“I’m really happy to have played for five years for Arsenal.”

He added: “I’ll keep in contact with my team-mates, with the coaches, with the club.

“I supported Arsenal since I was young, so obviously I’m going to keep supporting them. I know I will come back to the stadium as well.”

Lacazette captained Arsenal for the last few months of the season, after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was stripped off his captaincy for disciplinary reasons. And now, alongside his former teammate, he has left the Emirates Stadium as well.

Gabriel Jesus is expected to be the replacement for the Frenchman, with the club in talks with Manchester City to sign the Brazilian.
