While MediaTek has been on the rise since 2020, Qualcomm isn’t having a great run, especially in the mid-range to flagship chipsets as it’s been heavily criticized for its under-performing and of course lower efficiency. While the US chipmaker is heavily trying to turn this around by switching back to TSMC for making its chips, its upcoming Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 is making headlines already.

As has been the case, the 2022 flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 was supposed to be both high performing and efficient but it turned neither of them as it cannot hold its peak performance as we tested on the OnePlus 10 Pro after a single run. Smartphone makers using flagship Snapdragon chipsets have had really difficulties keeping them cool under heavy loads.

Though we won’t say MediaTek is out-of-the-world in terms of efficiency but is having a better situation than Qualcomm. Its recent Dimensity 8100 is already becoming the favourite for new age upper mid-range smartphones and Qualcomm has to react with its highly touted Snapdragon 7 Gen 1.

The recent leaked Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus is rumoured to be announced as soon as this month itself while new smartphones bearing it will launch from next month onwards. Now, the interesting fact is, that the well-known tipster Digital Chat Station has also confirmed that new products equipped with the new Snapdragon 7 platform will arrive soon.

This new Snapdragon 7 platform will also use a 4nm process, including four 2.36GHz Cortex-A710 cores and four 1.8GHz Cortex-A510 cores, supplemented by Adreno 662 GPU.

However, the first benchmark of the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 on an OPPO Reno 8 isn’t really impressive though because, on Geekbench 5, the SoC scores only 712 points in single-core and 2385 points in multi-core. These scores are nowhere near Dimesity 8100’s score, however, it looks the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 will be competing against the newly launched Dimensity 1300.
