Manchester United players are set to be hit by wage cuts next season, after failing to qualify for the Champions League. In their most recent game, they suffered a 4-0 defeat against Brighton at the Amex Stadium to end their hopes of making it to the top flight of Europe completely.

Based on the clause placed in the players’ contracts, the squad will be hit by a cut up to 25%. This is one of the ways that the club hopes to deal with the decrease in revenue next season, as they will possibly be playing in the Europa League based on their current position.

Manchester United players will have reduced wages next season

The maximum revenue available prize money for clubs in the Europa League is £16.22 million, with the winners receiving £7.23 million. This is a strong decline from the Champions League, which has a total pool of £71.66 million. TV revenue might help the club cope financially, but it won’t be enough to make up the difference.

United star Cristiano Ronaldo is set to have his £385,000 per week wage drop down to £288,000 if he stays at the club. Moreover, David De Gea’s £375,000 per week will be reduced to £281,000 per week as well.

Manchester United will be managed by Erik Ten Hag next season, who will have a lot of work to do in the summer with as many as ten players set to leave. The squad will have to be restructured so that the team can move past the disappointments of the current season.
