XMG to soon launch its laptops with Intel’s Arc Alchemist GPUs

XMG has announced a new roadmap that shows the whole portfolio of notebook models that will be available in 2022. Two forthcoming SKUs are included in the range, both of which are based on Intel’s new Arc Alchemist mobile discrete GPUs, which will be launched later this year, in Q3 2022.

The two models mentioned are a 15.6-inch NUC Project that will be powered by Intel’s flagship Arc graphics GPU and will function as a desktop replacement, and another notebook known as the X-Series project that will be powered by Intel’s flagship Arc graphics GPU and will function as a desktop replacement. This will undoubtedly be one of XMG’s flagship gaming notebooks, with a 17.3-inch display expected due to its desktop replacement status.

For those unfamiliar with the term, “Alder County” refers to Intel’s most recent reference specification for a gaming laptop that falls under the NUC banner. It’s an optional design that Intel’s partners can use, but if they do, they’ll be using Intel-designed components.

Because of Intel’s newly designed Arc Alchemist graphics architecture, Alder Country is the most unique reference design to date, as it has both an Intel CPU and an Intel discrete GPU. This reference spec will only feature an Alder Lake CPU and an Arc GPU, as the name implies.

We don’t know what CPU and GPU XMG will utilize for their NUC Project, but it could be anything from a Core i3 to a Core i9 Alder Lake mobile processor, as well as a GPU from the Arc 3, Arc 5, or Arc 7 series. XMG will most likely offer various NUC Project SKUs with varying CPU and GPU configurations.

According to XMG, this laptop will be identical to the XMG Fusion 15 from 2019, which uses Intel’s reference design as well. According to XMG, it will be based on a 15′ chassis with a clean design, so expect a thin and light gaming gadget.

This laptop will likely feature Intel’s flagship Arc Alchemist mobile GPU, the A770M, for XMG’s X-Series project. This GPU has a total of 32 Xe Cores (or 512 XVE/EUs), 16GB of RAM, and a TGP of 120-150W, depending on how much power laptop makers choose to put into their machines.

This notebook, according to XMG, will be built on an entirely new chassis optimized for the high-performance category, so anticipate it to be the polar opposite of the NUC Project, with a muscular and thick form factor.

XMG is one of Intel’s partners who has announced that Arc will be integrated into future gaming notebooks. Intel’s partners are likely to follow suit in large numbers.
