Bayern Munich defeated 4-2 by Bochum in a record-breaking first-half display

Bayern Munich were defeated by Bochum 4-2 in a game that made an unwanted piece of history for the Bavarians.

This is the first time in 46 years (since 1976) that Bayern Munich have conceded four goals in the first half alone. Interestingly enough, Robert Lewandowski was the first man to find the back of the net in the game. The Polish striker gave Bayern Munich the lead in the 9th minute. And things went downhill for them from that point.

Five goal first-half spells disaster for Bayern Munich

Despite having most of the ball for the first half, the Bundesliga table toppers were stunned by Bochum shortly after. Within half an hour of Lewandowski’s goal, they had given away their lead in the game.

THIS IS WHY WE LOVE FOOTBALL! 🙌💙

What an afternoon at the Ruhrstadion, our first victory against @FCBayernEN in 18 years.

And two quick goals before half-time from Gamboa and Holtmann made sure that the game was almost sealed by the time the two teams went back into the dressing room for halftime.

Although Lewandowski scored a brace in the game to take his overall tally to 26 in 22 Bundesliga games, it wasn’t enough to overturn the deficit. And ultimately, Bochum managed to earn a shock victory over the biggest team in the league by holding on until the final minute.

Despite the victory, Bochum remain in 11th place in the table, while Bayern Munich remain at the top. Their lead, however, could drop to six points if Borussia Dortmund can pick up a win against Union Berlin in their 22nd game.
