While its competitor NVIDIA’s deal to acquire ARM Holdings did fall behind, AMD’s announcement to acquire Xilinx seems to finally be complete in 2022. Yes, after the critical approval of Chinese regulators, this deal seemed imminent to close, so, AMD has finally made it official that it has received all necessary approvals for the proposed acquisition of Xilinx.

AMD says that apart from the remaining customary closing conditions, all conditions to the transaction closing have been satisfied and it plans to close the transaction on or about February 14, 2022.

After its proposal to buy this programmable logic products maker on October 27, 2020, AMD has never looked back and it’s doing great in the market. However, with the addition of Xilinx, it could do wonders in the server market, which is exactly what it is targeting:

“The transaction brings together two industry leaders with complementary product portfolios and customers, combining CPUs, GPUs, FPGAs, Adaptive SoCs and deep software expertise to enable leadership computing platforms for cloud, edge and intelligent end devices.”

There’s a huge data centre and cloud market ahead of us, so, AMD along with Xilinx could offer even more which should be a key area in attracting huge clients over time. Well, as this deal goes through, Intel will have to fight toe-to-toe to offer more services to its server clients as AMD looks to build an ecosystem with Xilinx’s acquisition.
