IPL’s new franchise Lucknow is all set to make its mark in IPL. KL Rahul has been made the captain of the team and is the joint-most expensive player in the history of IPL. Rahul has been bought by the franchise for a whopping amount of 17 crore which is the highest salary package ever. Four years ago, Virat Kohli has been bought by RCB for 17 crores.
Alongside the captain, Lucknow will also pick the Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis for 9.2 crore and uncapped leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi will be paid for 4 crore.
KL Rahul becoming the highest paid player for 17 crores
The India Premier League (IPL) has two new franchises- Ahmedabad and Lucknow. They have also announced their draft picks for the upcoming IPL edition. Lucknow chose KL Rahul for Rs. 17 crore, Marcus Stoinis for Rs 9.2 crore and Ravi Bishnoi got paid Rs 4 crore. Rahul is the joint most expensive player in the history of IPL and among one of the highest retainers so far.
Rahul is the captain of the Lucknow franchise and Andy Flower is the coach of the Lucknow franchise and former Indian batter Gautam Gambhir is the mentor.
“I have been really impressed by the leadership skills of KL Rahul. He is a phenomenal leader,” said Sanjiv Goenka, owner of the Lucknow franchise.
“It’s an honour to the part of Lucknow IPL and RPSG group. And thanks to Sanjeev Goenka,” said KL Rahul after the retention was confirmed.
KL Rahul was joined by fellow Punjab Kongs teammate Ravi Bishnoi at Lucknow. Bishnoi has really given a spectacular performance over the last couple of years and is all set to be the part of the new franchise. Lucknow has finalised Marcus Stoinis as their overseas player. He’s a hard-hitting middle-order batter and is one of the best pace bowling all- rounders in the IPL auction.
