Arsenal closing in on Matt Turner from MLS club New England Revolution

USMNT goalkeeper Matt Turner is on the radar of Arsenal for a move in the coming days. The player is expected to be the replacement for Bernd Leno, with the German set to leave the Emirates.

Personal terms have been agreed between Arsenal and the New England Revolution goalkeeper. Talks of the salary and contract length have not been an issue between the player and Arsenal. Now, only the details regarding the transfer fee need to be sorted out for the move to go through.

According to rumours, the transfer fee is expected to be around £5.5 million, and it could rise if add-ons are agreed.

Matt Turner on his way to Arsenal?

Matt Turner was named the goalkeeper of the tournament at the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup as the USMNT won the cup. He kept five clean sheets in their six games in the tournament, and has also started 13 of the last 22 games for the national team.

The player is in contention with Manchester City’s Zack Steffen for the number 1 spot in the national team. Both goalkeepers are expected to be number 2s, and the arrival of Matt Turner at Arsenal would see him competing with Aaron Ramsdale for game time.

Ramsdale joined the Gunners from Sheffield United this summer, and has since been the number 1 choice for Mikel Arteta. Turner has played his entire career in the US, and the arrival of the 27-year-old would provide Arteta with a great backup option.
