BCCI hikes the salary of domestic male and female cricketers by 50% before Ranji Trophy

The BCCI has cleared the salary of domestic cricketers of both genders prior to the 87th edition of the Ranji Trophy. The fees have been paid to the cricketers for the tournaments that got cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic in the 2020-21 session.

Ranji Trophy 2021, Women’s T20 tournament and a few more domestic matches got cancelled due to the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic in the nation. BCCI actually paid 50% more than the regular salary to each player as compensation.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah through Twitter said “Cricketers who participated in 2019-20 Domestic Season will get 50 per cent additional match fee as compensation for season 2020-21 lost due to COVID-19 situation.”

How the players will be paid?

the salary of each top Ranji player who played more than 40 matches was doubled to  ₹60,000. These players will earn ₹2.40 lakh for the first-class matches. The players who were a part of 21 to 40 matches will be paid around ₹50,000. On the other hand, players with less experience will be getting a salary of ₹40,000 per day.

This initiative will be benefitting more than 2,000 male cricketers for both under-16 and senior-level players.

Last year, BCCI released a statement saying the players who were a part of the 2019-2020 Ranji Trophy tournament will be paid 50% extra since the 2021 matches were called off.

The 2021 Ranji Trophy will be held from January 13 to March 17 across various venues, though there is a possibility of changing the dates due to the hike in Covid-19 cases after the Omicron variant.

The BCCI has decided to raise the match fees of the players during its Apex Council meeting in September. The committee comprised of big names like former India captain Mohammed Azharuddin, Yudhvir Singh, Santosh Menon, Jaydev Shah, Avishek Dalmiya, Rohan Jaitley, and Devajit Saikia.

The senior men will earn between Rs 40,000 to 60,000 per day of cricket, while senior women will receive a remuneration of up to Rs 20,000 per day.
