Nintendo Switch shortage will most likely remain the same until the end of mid-2022

The supply of Nintendo Switch systems is unlikely to improve in early 2022, according to a translation of what appears to be an interview with Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa. This has been the situation for the majority of 2021. Even if the Nintendo Switch OLED model is doing well, there are still issues that make it tough for Nintendo to build the consoles in the first place, let alone get them to where they need to go. And it appears that next year will be much the same, at least at first.

The Japanese newspaper Kyoto Shimbun quotes Furukawa as adding that the global shortage of semiconductors and logistical chaos continue to be challenges for the company, as roughly translated via Google Translate. Because of the aforementioned concerns, which have affected all major console manufacturers such as PlayStation and Xbox, among others, Nintendo Switch units may be scarce by the start of 2022.

This isn’t likely to come as a shock to anyone who has been looking for a new console of any kind during the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak. Due to the chaos, finding high-end equipment on shelves has become increasingly difficult, particularly in the United States. For the time being, it appears that this isn’t going to be fixed, at least not for Nintendo, and probably not for any other firm that relies on semiconductors to build whatever it is that it sells.

The base model and Nintendo Switch Lite consoles are presently available for $299.99 and $199.99, respectively, while the upgraded OLED variant is currently available for $349.99. That is if any of the various models are still available.
